Introducing: Bold & Noble (@boldandnoble)

You know when you see something and it makes you go ooooooooo, thats good! Screenprinting has that effect on me, it’s a combination of the boldness of colour and the imperfections that occur in the process that does it for me and the guys of Hitchin based studio Bold & Noble (our latest addition to Creative Links) have mastered it.

A wonderful collection of prints (all lovingly pulled by their own fair hands) available at their online store have ooooo’s a plenty add to that the amazing bookcovers and identity work and you have a whole firework display of ooooo’s and ahhhhhh’s!

See What You Print printers by @artefactgroup

Really like this concept from Seattle based design agency Artefact.

Great use of digital media to bring print ads to life

I have seen some brilliant examples of the blurring of the boundaries of print and digital media recently. I’m a huge fan of combining the interactivity of digital with the tactile/offline print medium which ultimately bring the piece to life and leads to a more engaging experience for the end-user. Here are some of my favourites…

Publicis Brussels made a campaign for Reporters Without Borders which won 3Cannes Lions 2011! 2 bronze, 1 silver!

AXA iPhone app by Duval Guillaume, Antwerp

BBDO, South Africa advertising the power of the Mercedes-Benz CL63 AMG

Interactive print ad for Peugeot

Who said interactive had to be digital?
Brilliant interactive print ad for Peugeot by São Paulo based agency Loducca

Eastern Eggs – British Red Cross Japan Tsunami Appeal

Great little project by British Red Cross to help raise money for the Japan Tsunami Appeal. At Eastern Eggs they have got a selection of popular illustrators/artists to produce cracking (pardon the pun) illustrations to appear on solid wood eggs which you can get your mitts on for a reasonable £10 donation.

I just ordered a Paul Pateman version, which ones your favourite?

LetterMpress™ Virtual Letterpress for iPad

Really like the idea behind this Kickstart project for LetterMpress, a virtual letterpress environment—released first on the iPad—that will allow anyone to create authentic-looking letterpress designs and prints.

It’s birth coincides with a growing interest from designers, artists and printmakers as a reaction to the “perfect” look of laser-printing.

The aim is to generate enough  funds thru the excellent Kickstart platform to enable them to rescue  the essential wood type collections and manual presses from the bonfires and landfills around the country so that not only do you get to create a digital edition of your artwork made on the iPad but they can realistically offer the service to authentically letterpress editions for you too.

Letterpress – There’s life in the old girl yet

As a lover of print design I can’t help but coo like a proud father everytime I see the results that can be produced by letterpress.

The ‘dying art’ is more and more becoming a thriving industry all over again, I know I for one am keen to apply it more and more to my work, you simply can’t beat results like these:

These stunning pieces are produced by EM letterpress in the states and I would be delighted to be put in touch with a press in the UK coming up with goods like these!

The guys at EM Letterpress love the art so much they blog about how they go about their business and share some of the insider secrets here and you can see more examples of their work on their flickr photostream here.

Sweet Dreams by Daniel Bjugård

Fantastic poster by Daniel Bjugård available on Wonderwall, where you can find a whole host of amazing prints!

Up close you have a mass of stars, step back and you get a skull…oh and did I mention it glows in the dark!
